When is best time to book flight to Barcelona for Sept. 2008

Hi all -

I'm going on a cruise that departs from Barcelona on Sept. 8, 2008. I can either fly out of Boston or NYC. I've set up fare alerts and they are currently in the $800 vein. My vaca is so far down the line that I'm not sure when is the best time to book my flight.

Any thoughts as to whether it will go down in the coming months? Is it typically better to book a flight closer to when you're flying (I've read w/in 3 months) or will I get the best deals now? Any advice/experience you can share will be most helpful, including cheaper ways to get there, airline recommendations etc.

When I went to Spain last year, I found that the cheapest way for me was to find a good deal to London, then take a cheap airline to Spain. In my case, I flew into Heathrow, took the bus to Stansted, then took Ryanair to northern Spain. Coming back, I took Easyjet to London Stansted, then bussed back to Heathrow for my return flight.

Personally, I don't think 800 looks too bad. Keep in mind that the dollar is weak, you are flying only a little off peak. You need to set a strike point as to when you will buy -- 750, 700, 650 ???? If you wait for the absolute cheapest ticket you probably will miss.

I agree with Frank...$800 to Barcelona is a pretty good deal already for early September, never mind the continued slide in the dollar.
