My family and I (seven total) will be flying to Europe in mid-June and staying for a week. We will hit Munich, Paris and/or Venice. Unfortunately, my wife and I had to cancel a trip in September but were fortunate in that the airline gave us the choice change dates (with a fee - and we had to know our plans immediately which we didn't) or vouchers to use when we rescheduled for our family to go in June. We chose vouchers. The ticket agent also advise that we go with vouchers because she said that there would be much better fares closer to our travel date. She wouldn't say when but led me to beleive that was the case. Well...the fares haven't changed much since September ($1536). Does anyone know when, or if they will. There's tons of sales ($500-$900) for travel by March or April for less than but nothig after that.
I am sorry it has not been my experience that you will find a sale in mid June which is absolutely peak season.
Also since the likelyhood of gas/oil prices going down is pretty remote I would not count on any deals after the early spring rush.
Also , none of my business , but all that way for one WEEK, jet lag for the first two days and then off you go home in only a few days. I would try very hard to stretch it to at least 10 days.
Pat makes good points, although a week in Europe is perfectly enjoyable, if you limit yourself to one or two cities. I spent a week in Rome (arrived Sun morning/left Saturday morning), including one day trip out to Florence, and it was just the right length to whet my appetite but wear me out. And I missed my family.
To answer your question...eh, mid-June you're probably out of luck for sales, unless you find something like Northwest's $700 fare from Seattle - London, which they are doing to launch a new route. Some people on the board say that sales happen about 3 months before the travel window, which would mean March for you, but frankly, I would expect summer fares to keep climbing. Any possibility you can go earlier? Even the beginning of May you might be able to find a better price for.
It is a dice roll. I have read of number of articles by "experts" that claim that there will be no discounts this summer. Most airlines are struggling financially and it gets worse as the dollar declines and oil rises. Second, European travel is picking up, our prices look cheap and the airlines do not care where the round trip tickets starts. Third, it appears that the airline are reducing overseas capacity.
The other problem you will have is getting seven cheap tickets are the same time. At you looking at just the direct flight from Denver? I have never seen those flights at much of a discount.
