Wheelchair assistance at train stations in Italy

I will be traveling with 2 companions through northen Italy beginning May 27. We have our saver train passes and necessary reservations. I am concerned about making my connections at the large train stations of Firenze Rifredi and Milano Centrale. Can a wheelchair be provided at any of these stations and, if so, how can I reserve one? Grazie, Ruth

I don't think that you will have issues at the Florence or Milan train stations. Great train stations. However, if you have connecting trains at some smaller stations, you often have to change platforms. This requires you to go down 25-30 stairs, go through a tunnel and up another 25-30 stairs. A very few stations had elevators or ramps instead of stairs. But, as seniors, I can attest that we have done a lot of stairs.
