This will be the first time I've traveled in Europe doing anything other than the most basic bargain type travel options. It's our honeymoon, so when we booked the night train from Paris (really Irun to Lisbon) we booked the most "first class" option, a reserved sleeper car. Does anyone have any idea what this will entail, and whether we will need our own linens? I'm used to the days of bringing my sleep sack everywhere and sleeping upright on the night train in a compartment among strangers, but I'm thinking (hoping) this will be different. Thanks!
I can't definitely say about sleepers in primitive parts of the world like France, Spain, and Portugal, but certainly in Germanic countries a sleeper would furnish all linens. A couchette just has bunk with a blanket, but a 1st class sleeper, it should provide linens.
Even in Russia, the sleepers have linens (a colleague of mine seriously asked if I slept on straw... perhaps she's seen Dr. Zhivago too many times). My guess is that you can safely leave your trusty old sleep sack at home.
