What type of electrical outlets on flights?

I know I'll be using my iPod during our first-ever flight to Europe, and I wondered whether I might be able to keep it charged during the flight. Do these seats typically have an electrical outlet, cigarette lighter outlet, and/or special "airplane plug" outlet? Does it vary from plane to plane? I know we will be on a Continental Airlines Boeing 777, if that helps. We're flying Economy, not first class.

(I've flown domestically dozens of times so I probably should know the answer to this, but I've never paid attention -- my flights are always short enough that I never needed to worry about recharging!)

I have never seen any kind of electrical outlet in economy class, either on international or domestic flights.

Louis,
I have a very small charger that actually charges an iPod with a AA battery. I believe there are a number of companies that make them for both iPods and various cell phones. That might be a good back up for you!

Go to www.seatguru.com to find out about your specific aircraft! According to them....

On 777-200 Version 1: There are Empower ports in all Business/First seats and in rows 17-23 of Economy

On 777-200 Version 2: There are AC ports in all Business/First seats and at every two of three seats in Economy.

Here's their link explaining different kinds of power options on planes:

FYI, if there is an "Empower" port you need a plug adapter (about $50-75) to use the plug.

Plan on using batteries and take extra. An outlet would be a bonus but don't count on it.

I purchased an external battery called "ILuv" that extends the battery time to 40 hours.
