What to do "IF" British Airways cancels our London>Rome flight

Greetings - Flying BA, LHR to FCO on a Saturday night in October...

We are in economy on award tickets booked through American Airlines. (We fly from our home airport in US to LHR on American and then connect to Rome on BA). We have paid extra to have seat assignments on our London>Rome BA leg.

Anyway, I've been noticing that BA is cancelling at least one flight daily between London and Rome. So, what does one do if we end up with a cancelled flight?

Do I contact American (since it's one of their award tickets)? Or BA? Best to use the app?

Thanks!

If BA cancels your flight, they will rebook you on another flight. If the flight isn't good for you, you call and arrange a different flight.

If you accept the new flight, you will have to buy new seats and request a refund for the old ones. (If you speak to an agent, they can do this for you.). They could also say you have to wait for a flight that has FF seats available but usually they will wave this. Refunds for seats can take 2-3 months.

Since it's a BA flight, and you have the BA locater number (you needed that to buy the seats), deal with BA.

Airlines at Heathrow are under orders to cancel a few flights a day due to airport capacity limits. This is supposed to continue into October.

BA cancelled our 10/16 return flight today. It was CDG to LHR to SEA. The first leg was cancelled. I went to the BA site and it gave me options for AA on the 16th and AA or BA for the 17th. Went with a AA itinerary for the 16th that has us CDG-DFW-SEA. However....when I went to the AA site to select seats it had two additional flights that same day ... LHR-ORD-SEA. Not sure why this was. Called BA, on hold for 13 minutes. They found the extra AA flights and said I needed to contact AA since he could not alter their itinerary. On hold with AA for 1.5 hours only to be hung up on. On hold on the AA app for live chat for 8.5 hours only to be told I needed to contact BA since that is who marketed the ticket. I called BA back (at 3:15 am) on hold for 12 minutes. They said not to worry about the other extra flights showing on the AA site since BA has confirmed both of us on their itinerary and don't show any extra flights. So, to try and answer your question --- contact the airline that took your money originally. In your case it would be AA. Good luck getting anyone to respond. You can try using the AA app, but be prepared for a long wait. It seems, as far as the airlines go, no one really cares about the customer experience any more. I hope your experience is better than mine. I also hope that when we go to return home from our Best of Europe in 21 Days tour that we have flights !! Cheers

Ok, Thanks Frank II (exactly the guidance I was looking for) and Thommi (sorry to hear of your troubles. Not a good situation. Surprised they've already cancelled the flight with this much time remaining)

Our BA flight London to Barcelona was canceled with no other options. We had to rebook through AA and the time is not great.
