We are renting a VW California camper/van for our trip July 1-23. We will be traveling in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Czech Republic. We are bringing our own bedding to save on the cost. Should we bring sleeping bags(40 degree) or sheets and buy cheap blankets there? How cold does it get at night where we are going? We are from Colorado so our nights here in the mtns. are chilly.
Thanks.

If you are going to the alps in Austria or Switzerland, it can get chilly at night. Sleeping bags do provide comfort and extra padding for a camper bed. However, I'm not sure if I would like to take them all the way to Europe (not my bulky ones). Are your bags the backpacker type--lightweight and easy to pack? You could purchase duvets/comforters there, however, they do require covers and, as you said, it would add more expense. Jo, in Frankfurt, would be able to tell you whether or not you could buy cheap American type blankets there. Hope this helps... Have fun!
We have decided to take our light weight 40 degree back packer bags in their compression sacks, plus cotton liners. Our bags unzip at the bottom so they open flat. Thanks for the tips.
