What is the cheapest way to get from Marco Polo Airport to Venice/St. Marks

Hi[INVALID]I was wondering if people had suggestions on the best and cheapest way to get from the airport to St. Marks. Is the bus the cheapest? The train? Thanks so much for advice and help. I would appreciate information also on how to get tickets for whatever type of transport you suggest. We are trying to save money on this and want to avoid a private taxi.

Unfortunately, you either choose the best or the cheapest. Most often, you don't get both. The absolute best is the private water taxi which will cost you about 100Euro ($130) for up to 6 people. For the 2nd best and least expensive is the bus from the front of Marco Polo to the Piazalle Rome and then take the vaporetto (water bus) from the Piazalle Roma to the St. Marks plaza. There are two different bus lines from Marco Polo. About 3E-4E per person. The indiviual ticket cost on the vaporetto is 6.5E. Or, you can buy a multi-hour pass that permits unlimited rides. Finally, there is the Alilaguna boat that runs from Marco Polo to St. Marks square. About 13Euro. http://www.alilaguna.it/linearossa.html

I think the best options are either bus to Pizzalle Roma and vaporetto to St. Marks for just under 10 euro or the Alilaguna water bus (not taxi) directly to San Zaccaria (very near St Marks) for about 13 euro. If you plan to buy a vaporetto pass (which I highly recommend), it will cover the vaporetto from Piazzale Roma to St Marks. That's why I always choose the bus + vaporetto option. Purchase bus or Alilaguna tickets at the airport and vaporetto tickets or passes at a vaporetto ticket booth. I wouldn't recommend walking from Piazzale Roma to St Marks with luggage due to the many bridges and confusing streets.
