I am looking at booking a night train from munich to chuisi, italy (a little place on the way to rome.) I see a pretty good deal listed under Europa-Spezial Italien...do i need some sort of a special pass to book this, or can anybody book fares in this category?
It's just the name of a very cheap, non-refundable, non-rebookable limited availability special fare. Go ahead and book it ASAP as it might disappear from the list quite soon. Anybody can book the Europe Special Italy fare.
I've never purchased a Europe-Spezial-Ticket, I have bought several Dauer-Spezial tickets, which work the same way except are for trips entirely inside Germany.
The tickets require at least a three day advance purchase, but the lowest fares sell out quickly, so get the ticket as soon as you can commit.
It's easy to do. You go through the booking process online, using your credit card. After you have booked, they email you a pdf file (so you need Adobe Acrobat), which you can print out on your home computer. When you use the ticket, you will need to show the credit card you used for the purchase as indentification.
Where did you find the Europa-Spezial Italien? I am taking an overnight train from Munich to Venice but can not find anything on the Bahn.de website. I would like to check out the fares. Would you please forward the website and how to find the correct trains. Thanks, Sharon
This is the German Rail schedule and booking website. You will only find those Savings fares if you input a date 3 or more days in the future, as these tickets require a 3 day advance reservation. The lowest fare, €53 for a reclining seat, seems to be already sold out for most dates, as were couchettes for the date I checked. There were, however, economy singles and doubles available.
The special fares from Germany to Italy are on the http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml website. They are limited fares and are often snapped up when they become available. You may or may not see these fares available depending on your travel date. It looks like your overnight journey from Munich to Venice is on the City Nightline train departing at 21:03. Message back with a travel date and we can tell you if we see any special fares available on that train. Or, you can research this yourself on the website. I was just looking at the run for July 23 and the special fare was gone.
