Weird thing with Delta. Has this happened to anyone?

So I'm booked on a flight to Fort Myers in a little over a week, and when I checked the flight today, there was a notice from Delta saying that they are extremely sorry, but they had to rebook me on a different flight, and that it's changed my travel plans, so I have the option of finding an alternative flight, or changing my ticket, or cancelling it; blah, blah, blah.

What's weird is my flight didn't change. It's the same confirmation number, the same flight number, the same date and time, the same plane, and the same seat. Nothing has changed. I've gone over it several times, so I'm positive nothing has changed. It just seems weird, and I've never had this happen before. Has anyone else ever experienced it?

Similar.
I was standing in the check in line at the airport a few years ago, when I got a notification on my phone that my flight was cancelled and then rebooked.
Same flight, same number, same plane, same seat….but leaving five minutes later.
I think the computer systems just go mad every now and again ……..just to stir us all up…..😈

I don't think the email was legitimately from Delta. I've heard of scammers that do this and try to get your info when you call to rebook the ticket. It's best to call Delta directly (not using the number from the email) or check the app.

I'm a mostly-Delta flyer and I've seen it before. I never know what to make of it. Sometimes I'll go online on a different device and do a dummy booking to see if the flight still looks the same and, if so, I just ignore it.

Delta's weird with their notifications. Sometimes I NEVER get a notification for an actual change and then sometimes I get those non-change notices.

Was the notification by e-mail, or in the Delta app?

markcw, I was just getting ready to reply to JS's comment about that.

It was not an email; it was in the app. I input my confirmation code and my name, the trip popped up, and there was a big message right at the top.

It's probably just a glitch, like Valerie and SW said. I may open up a chat with Delta just to be on the safe side, but I'm hoping that it's just some weird mess-up with the system. But it's still odd. I've been flying with Delta for almost 40 years and have never had that happen.

We fly very frequently to and from San Francisco on United or Alaska. And this too, seems to happen frequently on the flight back out of San Francisco, but thru the apps. The gate agents just shrug their shoulders. It might be they’ve changed the size of the plane, who knows what but it seems to trigger the system. As long as the plane gets me home at a reasonably close time to what was scheduled, I’m happy.

Check to see if they changed your seats. That happened to me.

Katie, that's the first thing I did, and no, my seat is still the same. I went back to the original confirmation email I got from Delta to double-check everything, but it's all exactly the same.

Is the arrival time still the same? I've had this happen with various airlines, even when there are extremely minor and inconsequential changes. Once or twice this change has been that the flight will be a few minutes faster or slower than originally indicated, so the arrival time changed slightly.

I haven't had that happen, but your post made me worry about my upcoming trip so I checked it in the app. No notifications and everything looks ok, but it was a good reminder to keep an eye out :)

BB, it's exactly the same. That's also one of the first things I checked. It's 10:25 AM now, and it was 10:25 AM when I booked. Nothing has changed. It's so weird, but I'm not going to worry about it.

CL, I know what you mean. I have had times in the past where Delta has changed the flight and forgotten to tell me about it. That's why I check periodically to see what's going on. But I've never had this happen before! 😂

I'll ask my brother about it when I get to Florida. He's a retired Delta pilot, so he may know what's going on.

This just happened to our son on an Alaska flight in his airline portal. He couldn't figure out what had changed, so he called, and they couldn't figure out what had changed either. So they agreed to hang up and part as friends and pretend it didn't happen!

KD, hahaha! I'm so glad their relationship survived this, lol! 😂

I think the same thing happened in an old movie -- I think it was called Terminator-- right before AI achieved consciousness and then suddenly phony cancel flight notices and cyborgs starting making a real mess of things so, yeah, I think it has something to do with ChatGPT or grok or Gemini and time travel.

Anyway, the real lesson is don't trust computers or any digital communication... like this post.

I get one of these every Saturday

My upcoming trip to Paris apparently has changed 10 times.

Honestly, I can’t find the change either. But when I log into the website, I can see on the reservation. It says we rebooked you so it’s not a scam. It’s really happening

Delta, the schedule changes every Saturday sometimes they’re significant sometimes they’re so small. You probably can’t figure it out. That’s all I can figure out.

But do not wait on them to email you one of the reasons I know all this is I go in every Sunday or Monday and check every reservation. I have on every airline because the early bird gets the worm if they do change it to something you don’t like. you don’t want to wait on the airline to tell you you want to be proactive.

David, hahaha!!!! Good one!

But do not wait on them to email you.

Carol, believe me, I don't. That's why I was on the app, checking in to make sure everything was still good.

On numerous occasions, I have received notice from Delta that the times for my flights have been changed. Usually, the time changes are minor. This might be an opportunity to get a different flight with better times or a cheaper price.

However, I once received notice from Delta that my flight was being changed, even though the flight I booked was not being cancelled, because apparently Delta needed to assign my seat to someone else.

The same thing occurred last week for me with a British Airways' notice, but same flight, same date and time, same flight number. I guess it's just a refresh.

Weird things going on at delta during earning’s call:

‪George Pearkes‬ ‪@peark.es‬ · 2h Good morning and welcome to
earnings season. DAL usually kicks us off but they've changed their
earnings timing this quarter and are apparently planning to drop their
financials at the same time their call starts (10a). Maybe just a
misprint but that's what's in all the schedules.

George Pearkes‬ ‪@peark.es‬ · 2h The 787 move is a big one because

Jean, that's probably it, lol! And I will—Naples is looking better and better every day now!

Usually, the time changes are minor. This might be an opportunity to get a different flight with better times or a cheaper price.

RJ, I guess I could, even though there's been no change. Of course, it might have been a glitch, so who knows? At any rate, I already have a very decent price, and I'm good about getting times that work best for me, so I definitely don't want to change anything.

David, you might as well have been posting in Greek. You lost me at 'earnings call'. 😊

Sorry Mardee— reading between the lines, Delta is having a K shaped recovery— declining in economy and growing in B class. And reading even more between the lines, it is because of AI and Cyborgs from the future! So it may explain the odd ticketing things you experienced….or may not. (I gotta stop watching those SciFi films.)

Happy travels!

I usually just call the airlines directly when in doubt. I use flightaware.com (they have a free mobile app) to check the flight status; and on the day of travel I click its 'where is my plane now' to see if the flight will be on time.
