Hi all,
Will be arriving on Turkish Airlines from Istanbul around 2am. We are staying at the Ritz Carlton Sharm a short distance from the airport. Is it safe to hail a taxi at the airport that time of night and how much do we expect to pay as we don't want to be taken for a ride. Thanks in advance.
All the info, except the price, is here (it states you need to set a fixed price beforehand w/ the driver) http://sharm-el-sheikh-airport.com/transportation.htm The Ritz doesn't have a shuttle?
I would think so. I had no issues with taxis at Cairo, Luxor or Aswan airports about 2 years ago. Obviously, your options to bargain go down significantly at night since the cabbies know you don't have many other options. Your best bet is to get a good idea of the cost. Easiest place is to check the Thorntree forum on the Lonely Planet website. Or google. Last option - call your hotel and see what they will charge (obviously more expensive than just a cab but this gives you the upper limit on the fare).
