Given how many different ways there are now to get from one city in Europe to another cheaply, is there a search engine out there that will give you the cheapest flight to ANYWHERE in Europe from a specific city in the US? Or even better, the cheapest flight from ANYWHERE in the USA to ANYWHERE in Europe? Yes, there are plenty of pitfalls involved when making additional connections, but it seems like this would be valuable information to have, and not difficult for an internet search engine.
Randy - try this site: http://www.farecompare.com/maps/
Tom, Interesting site that I had not seen before. A quick scan showed a lot of flights in the $700 range for March/Minneapolis which, upon further clicking turned into $1000 flights when taxes and fees were thrown in, so clearly no bargains to be had here. I suspect this was not the best way to search comprehensively. Good try though...
Is this a contest? Ok then, I submit Mobissimo.com. Sorry, I know points lost. Got to get the link yourself!
I looked at Mobissimo.com and it just looked like another ordinary city-to-city search engine. Was there a link I missed that searches all of Europe at once? That's what I was looking for. It just seems like that would be a million$ idea for a search engine and it's hard to believe it's not out there already...
After you enter in a specific city in Mobissimo and a specific date like Paris in April, it will do a search then give you the lowest fare to western Europe at the lowest $ date like maybe a sale to Nice in March. That's the closest and about the only site I have found that does that.
Skyscanner.net! You can search a specific city or country, to another country or "everywhere." It has helped me plan my weekend trips. Really useful.
Kayak.com has a feature listed under it's "Tools" section called "Explore" - you can put in your home airport, the month you want to travel, and Europe to show the least expensive destinations. The "Buzz"feature listed under "More Tools" can also be useful. Good luck finding a great fare!
Randy, I use TripAdvisor's Air Watch Alert. I tell them to email me when the fare falls below a certain level. In August I received an Alert about a fare from SFO to Madrid for travel in September for $692. It was only available for one departure date in Sept., and since I was able to make it a 2 week trip, I booked it. Recently, I received another Alert for travel to Madrid from San Francisco fin October for $698. I currently have 3 cities on Air Watch Alert.
This is a great question and I am going to look into the sites already mentioned. Regarding Trip Advisor, I think this is great for the reason mentioned, although from what I found, it only seemed to have fares about 3-4 months out. I am looking to go to Europe 8 months from now, and I haven't found a site that does that for that far in advance. Is it possible to change the Trip Advisor settings or is there another site that watches fares and notifies that far in advance?
airfarewatchdog.com - you may have to join to get replies.
I normally set up alerts everywhere, kayak, tripadvisor, airfare watchdog, etc.. I get weekly updates to start with to get a sense of the going price. A few months ahead I switch to daily updates and try to keep a closer eye on the alerts. When a good deal pops up, you often don't have long to pounce before it's gone. Sometimes I get great deals, most of the time I'm comfortable knowing I'm getting a decent deal.
Sharon, thanks for the Kayak tip! I've had that question for a long time now but for US flights. Sometimes we have a long weekend and I wonder if there's a good deal anywhere and don't feel like searching every US airport. Now I have a way to do this. Thanks!
I hate it when I can't see the obvious... I use Kayak all the time. I've never seen a "tools" button...??
Randy, on Kayak at the top of the page, left hand side, click on the "More" button. That is where I found the Tools feature, although i haven't used it yet. good luck
Linda's correct - on the Kayak search, click on " More" then you'll see "Tools." Sorry for the confusion! Also, ITA Software (http://matrix.itasoftware.com/) Airfare Search is helpful.
Aha! Yes, I found it. Thank you. That looks like the best option I've seen so far.
