We’ve checked in and have our boarding passes. A 3 hour layover in Atlanta before departing to London. Do we have to go to the counter since it’s an international flight and we just have carryon? Or can we just proceed to security?
You can just go to security but many of us recommend you get physical copies of your boarding passes and have them, just in case.
If you have to check luggage go to counter. Otherwise, no. Secondly are there kiosks where you can get paper boarding passes? I always have them on phone AND have a paper one. Like having a paper and digital trail. It’s how I roll. I’m also a carry on traveler
I’m old school and make 2 copies of paper. I didn’t know you could do both. Great that we can just bypass the counter and go straight to security. Thanks!
At the gate watch how many fliers merely tap their phone when boarding the plane. 21st century travel in the digital age.
Safe travels.
Have a wonderful time in my favorite city on the planet!
FYI if landing at Terminal 3 its a long walk to security. There are people movers. Use them if you need to.
I have never changed planes in Atlanta.
Why do you have to go through security? Are you changing terminals?
Frank's right.
Arriving into Atlanta from Indiana for an international flight, you just go to your next gate. You won have to go through security or to the check-in desk. You are on the secure side of the airport - even if you have to change terminals (which you will). You just follow the signs, take the escalator down to the train plane, and go to whichever terminal your international flight departs from (E or F), and then ride the escalator up to terminal level.
(I change planes in Atlanta six or eight times a year between domestic and international)
Edit to add: maybe you meant what did you have to do at your Indiana airport ?
You do not have to queue in the check in counter lines but rather go straight to your departure gate. At some point the airline may want to physically examine your passport and update information in their system. You can easily present that document upon arrival at the departure gate before boarding your originating flight or at the gate for your international flight in Atlanta. Doing so will speed up your boarding process for that international flight.
I can see why he is asking about security because when you google this it says “when connecting from Domestic to International in Atlanta you must go thru security again at the International terminal.” But in other places it says no. Gotta love the internet for confusion when traveling!
My experience with United is that the FAA or the TSA wants them to physically inspect your passport and compare it to your ticket booking passport (which can't be done at a cursory "gate" passport inspection.) Also, the airline will have to take you home if you are not admitted to the UK.
