Has anyone ever done the trip for THE BEST OF ITALY with insight vacations.? And how are the water boats/taxis that take you from the hotel to Marks Square and where does your luggage go. I am worried about the boat for I get motion sickness can anyway help
Water boats and water taxis are two different animals. The water boats/bus are like big barges that follow a set route like a land bus. Actually slow and stable and probably best if motion sickness. And you just carry your luggage with you. Water taxis are high speed motorboats. They are fairly big and heavy so motion is min while running at high speed. But there are areas when wake restrictions means that the boat is going to bob and roll because they have to go very slow. Again they have areas for luggage storage. Water taxis tend to be very expensive.
Thanks so much for your quick response . I am touring with insight vacations and I heard the luggage goes separately so I was concerned about the boat transportation and getting sea sick
I cannot speak to what Insight does. I am just saying that there is room for luggage on the water taxis because they take a lot of people with luggage everywhere = not just tour people. Maybe Insight off loads the luggage so that more people can get on the taxi. I don't know. You should be asking them and not us.
One other thing that may or may not be of help.... in all the years I have been riding the vaporetto I have never seen anybody obviously seasick. I don't do water taxis (ok, I don't do taxis unless I must at work) but I've seen many plenty. Again, I haven't been around water taxis after midnight on Friday or Saturday nights (if you know what I mean - wink wink) but I haven't seen obvious signs of sickness there either. Good luck, Pat...
I don't know anything about your tour company or your particular tour. What I do know quite a lot about is Venezia. Based on what you have said it is almost certain that you will all leave your bus together and go into S Marco together on one or more water taxis or launches. Your luggage will all come off the bus together and follow you on one or more open boats specifically designed to transport baggage. It will be delivered to your hotel and probably your room. If you go down the Grand Canal the speed is kept very low because waves damage the fragile buildings lining the canal. As long as people stay seated the boat will be very stable and I don't think you are likely to have much sickness problem. If you are taken down the Guidecca Canal the boats can go quite a lot faster but the trip is short. As two boats pass near each other there can be some wake and a bit of bobbing as your boat crosses the wake. It is not scary or bad. I hope you enjoy your tour, and that the sickness is not bad for you. Venice is a wonderful place, but it is on water. It really is.
Thanks so much for the responses
