What is the route and approximate cost of vaporetto (if that is the right term - water taxi?) from Venice airport into central Venice?
The Vaporetto is equivilent to the bus system on water for Venice. A water taxi is a private boat (about 60 euros from the airport) rather than a shared one.
There is no vaporetto (water bus) service from the airport into Venice. You have three different choices. First, is the land bus. 3Euro-6Euro from the airport to the Piazzale Roma in Venice depending on the carrier. This is a major vaporetto stop. Second, is the Alilaguna service (www.alilaguna.it). This is a smaller modified water bus that does go to and from the airport to limited stops in Venice. About 12E-15E. Third is the water taxi. This is a small fast boat that will hold about 5-6 people with luggage. Minimum fare is 100Euro ($155). It's fast but very expensive. The water taxi will take you to, or close to, your hotel.
I can provide bus and Alilaguna schedules if you wish.
Make sure you take the Alilaguna. It takes about 70 minutes from downtown to the airport, or visa versa, and then you have to walk about 100 yards from the terminal.
The other option is a water taxi. You still have to walk the 100yds, it's about 30 minutes and almost 10 times the price.
It's not quite that bad, we paid 60 euros from the airport in a water taxi last summer. It was worth it as our hotel had a dock right on the canal.
Please be careful on the water taxi.
Sounds like David got a Great deal.
When I went the Alilaguna was 10 Euros, while the direct water taxi was 90 Euros.
Again, you may get a good deal, but be careful.
Thanks for the advice on the water taxi, etc. I will look up the schedule for the Alilaguna service
