We are cruising in May this year and will dock in Warnemunde, Germany, on 29th May. Can someone please tell me how long it takes to get to Schwerin or Stralsund by train, how to go about it, and how much it costs? I would also like a recommendation on which of these towns would be best to visit. We dock at 6am and depart at 10pm.
According to the Deutsche Bahn website, Warnemünde to Schwerin takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on what time you leave. Most connections involve a change in Rostock, although there are a few direct trains. Price is €22 on the day of travel, or €19 if you buy in advanced. Considering you're not saving much with the advanced purchase, I would just buy the tickets at the station. Warnemünde to Stralsund takes about the same amount of time, costs the same, and also involves a change in Rostock. I haven't visited Stralsund, but from the pictures, it looks similar to Schwerin, minus the castle. I think either would be a good choice.
Thank you very much for your reply, Tom. I really appreciate your good advice.
