Want to get from Lauterbrunnen, Switz. to Germany via scenic train

I have allowed myself three days to get from Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland to Karlsruhe, Germany. I would really like to do this traveling by a scenic train ride but I can't quite figure out what will work. Perhaps the Glacier Express from Visp to Chur? Any other ideas?

Thanks

In addition to the Glacier Express (named for its speed, :) ), you might want to check out the Brünigbahn, which goes from Interlaken to Luzern. I'm not sure how scenic it might be (it is in the mountains), but it is another of the "rack" railroads like parts of the Glacier Express. From Luzern, you could get to Karlsruhe via Zürich, Basel, and the Rhein.

The Brünigbahn is also called the Zentralbahn. The direct route from Interlaken to Zürich goes through Luzern and the section from Interlaken to Luzern is mountainous and steep, hence the rack railroad. However, rack railroads are netoriously s-l-o-w (20 mph or less). That is why traffic from Zürich to Interlaken normally goes around to the north to Bern, then up the river valley from Bern to Interlaken.

Miranda, I'm a little out of my area of expertise (Germany) here. I only know about the Brünig Bahn because a while ago some people were trying to sell Coloradoans on the idea of a Swiss style cog railroad from Denver to Vail to relieve the congestion on I-70. (Not bad if you don't mind spending 8 hours getting to Vail).

Hopefully, someone more familiar with this area (like Michael Schneider) will come along and give you some good advice.

Thanks, Lee. We're considering that Zentralbahn suggestion. Still not sure what we're going to do, but we're weighing the options! Thanks!
