I was just informed by Vueling that our flight on Friday has been cancelled due to a strike. We were scheduled to fly film Bilbao to Lisbon,
The email said I would be informed of alternatives.
However, we were flying back to Lisbon to make a flight home to the US on Saturday.
Any advice please!
I’d look online with your record locator to see if you’ve already been rebooked. If not, or you don’t like the rebooking, look up other flight options on Vueling or Iberia and can call them to request the routing you prefer. And I’d do it ASAP.
(Iberia because they are a corporate sibling and code-share partner.)
Check TAP Air Portugal or Air Europa to see if any flights are available. Both are budget air carriers and not too expensive.
It's about 500 miles from Bilbao to Lisbon by ground. It's 12-14 hours by bus.
If you can get to Bordeaux, there are a lot of direct flights to Lisbon. Or, try to fly to Lisbon on Thursday or even Wednesday from Bilbao. Good luck.
In emergency situations, you have to be very flexible and, unfortunately, spend more money than originally planned. Once you get over the first shock, I'm sure you'll jump into action and get it planned out. Please keep us informed.
We had the same thing happen to us in Rome going to Paris with Easy Jet a couple of weeks ago. Rebook now, and if you find flights that are workable, book them. Don't think you have time to think about it because they will be gone. There are a lot of people in your same shoes. The air strike totally messed us up, as we were flying home from Paris. We ended up having to leave Rome a night early, take the train to Milan, spend the night and grab the early train to Paris. It was a long day, but the only way to get where we needed to be was in time. Good luck!
Thank you everyone for your advice. Vueling has booked us on another flight for later on Thursday. A direct flight to Lisbon from Bilbao. Keeping my fingers crossed!
