Volotea - New low cost airline based in Venice, Italy

With an all Boeing 717 fleet (like Airtran) a new start-up low cost airline raised $65 million to start operations from Venice airport on April 5th. Initially the airline wants to connect Venice with other Italian cities as well as with Alicante, Bilbao, Bordeaux, Budapest, Krakow, Malaga, Porto, Thessaloniki and Santiago de Compostela. Starting June 1st a second base is scheduled to open in the French city of Nantes which the airline wants to connect with 14 cities including Munich.

Unfortunately, no route planned to München or Zürich, two air routes in bad need of more competition.

Judging from the cities Volotea will fly to they obviously want to avoid competition.
