Just in, Virgin Atlantic are putting 3,100 people out of work and ending its operation at Gatwick.
That is very similar to the same number of people announced by Ryanair the other day.

They intend apparently to sub-lease their Gatwick slots to another airline in case they want to return in the future. This assumes there will be an immediate demand when they become.available.
First RyanAir now VirginAtlantic. Gatwick is smaller than LHR, easier to deal with. Too bad.
I've read that British Airways is also considering pulling out of Gatwick. However, I don't recall my source for this.
That's too bad. I like flying from Gatwick. I read that Norwegian if it survives may either pull out or very much limit their presence there.
So, does Gatwick just become a home for budget airlines offering European flights and no long haul service?
