We will be traveling through Cinque Terre and would like to stop in Vernazza for the afternoon, but will not be staying the night. Does anyone know if there is a luggage storage area at the train station or elsewhere?

According to the Trenitalia site, the closest station with left luggage facilities is La Spezia Centrale.

hmm.. so what do people visiting for just a day usually do? Is the only option to carry your bags around with you?

really small station. wait until you see it. no luggage storage that i have seen. you may be able to work something out with the attendants or local business owners. have fun be safe.

Local regional trains run frequently between La Spezia and the Cinque Terre towns. It's only a 20-minute ride from La Spezia to Vernazza and the fare is €1.70. Store your luggage at La Spezia Centrale and hop on a train to Vernazza.
