I have a 7:35 AM flight from Mestre to Rome to get to my return flight to the US. I will be staying in Venice near the Piazza San Marco, and I am concerned that I will have difficulty getting through Venice that early in the morning on a vaporetto and get to the airport on time. Is there anyone out there who has advice about how I can do this?

I'm flying out of the Venice airport. I was confused because it is on the mainland. So, I assumed that it would be considered to be in Mestre.

The earliest boat leaves at 3:40 AM and reaches the airport at 5:00 AM. The next boat arrives at the airport at 6:10 AM. Would the later boat's arrival time still allow enough time to catch a 7:35 AM flight to Rome? I understand that there is roughly a five block walk from the dock to the airport, and my wife has bad knees and walks slowly. It's just hard to imagine getting up early enough to catch the 3:40 AM boat at San Marco.

Brian, your message says that you have a flight from Mestre to Rome. Is there an airport in Mestre or do you mean Venice-San Marco?
Brian, as mentioned above, there are three ways to get to the Venice-Marco Polo airport. 1) Alilaguna Blue Line (www.alilaguna.it). As mentioned above, 1st boat leaves the San Marco stop at 3:40am and arrives at the airport at 5:00am. You have plenty of time. The next Blue line departs at 4:50am and arrives at 6:09am. A bit tight.
2) The second method is to get to the Piazzale Roma. It's a major vaporetto stop. The ACTV #5 bus goes from the P. Roma to the airport. About 5E. The first bus leaves at 4:40am and arrives at 5:05am. The next one departs at 5;40am and arrives at 6:05am.
3) The water taxi. High-speed. Your hotel will arrange to have one at the hotel when you need it. Cost - 100E-115E ($155-$180 after conversion). Super OUCH!!.
So, you think that taking the boat that reaches the airport dock at 6:09 is probably too late to safely make a 7:35 flight? Also, where do you buy tickets for the Blue Line Alilaguna boat? I assume that you would get them at the dock. Also, do they accept credit cards? Thanks.
