How long does it take by train from Venice to Monterosso_what is the best connection? Do we need to change train?

We did that route 2 years ago and we did a change in Milan. It was a longer day trip so be prepared. Check out the train times on the DB website. I believe there were a few different routes to choose from.

It takes a better part of the day. We took this trip in Oct. 2009. You will need to make a few connections. The first connection is in Florence. We stopped in Pisa for 2 1/2 hours and from there went to La Spezia where we changed trains for the Cinque Terre. I think the time is the same whether you travel through Florence or Milan.
