what is the easiest way to get from venice/marco polo airport area to ljubljana, slovenia? I arrive at 5pm..should I get hotel & go in morning or try for that evening?

On www.bahn.de, I see day runs that include an Austrian Intercity bus ride to Villach hbf (3.5hrs) where you transfer to a train going to Ljubljana. Then, I see a night train run that departs Venezia Santa Lucia on a EuroNight train at 21:05. You change trains about 12:40am in Villach to another Euronight train to Ljubljana. Total journey time is just under 9.0hrs. You arrive at 06:00am. Unfortunately, I cannot see the run on Trenitalia. The Italian website is having difficulties. I'm afraid if you wait until you get there, you won't get tickets for the night train. They do book up. I hope somebody has better scoop. I believe that there is bus service all the way.

thanks for the prompt reply. I have been thinking (haha), so many decisions........probably will stay over nite in venice and try to find a train to trieste..........then not sure?????

Hi Diane! Below is the website for a bus service that runs direct between Marco Polo and Ljubljana. According to the timetable, it's about a three hour trip. Looks like it just runs once a day, though, so you would need to stay the night in Venice. Hope this helps, and have a great trip! http://www.drd.si/en/default.aspx?ID=199

Diane, there are train routes, although you'd probably need to leave the next day. Try searching on www.bahn.com
