Venice early morning transport to Marco Polo airport?

We have a 6:30 a.m. flight out of Marco Polo airport and wonder how easy it is to get to the airport from the centre of Venice around 4:00 a.m.? Is there transport at that time? Not sure if we should get a room near the airport the evening before flight (or just stay at the airport that night)?

We ran into a similar problem when planning our itinerary. The only flights we could take to get us to Frankfurt for our flight home to SEA would have to leave early. There were no scheduled trips to the airport at that time of the morning, and private water taxis were going to be very expensive. We ended up giving ourselves an afternoon and night in Verona instead. The cost of the train trip and the taxi ride in Verona were much less than staying that night and traveling by private water taxi from Venice.

Here's a webpage with some information on private water taxis

I also have an early flight (mine is at 7am) from Venice in April. What I did was book a hotel just on the other side of the Piazzale Roma so we could walk there in the morning with our luggage, and then take the city bus (ACTV #5) which does run that early. I believe the first bus is at 4am . takes about 25 min to airport and costs less than 3 euros each. It is a public bus so you have to bring the luggage onboard with you but you can easily take it and get the airport for the 6:30 am flight and still get to stay in Venice the night before.

I had a 7am flight out of Venice a couple of years ago and although it was WAY too early, I was able to take a vapretto right off San Marco square at about 3:30am. It's a long and slow ride (took about an hour to get to the airport) and once I got there I had loads of time to hang out because there really wasn't any one else there (breezed right through security). I think the cost was about 12 or 13 Euros. Hope that helps.

To the south of the train station is the main bus terminal. I found out that the buses run all night so you can arrive as early as you want to get to Marco Polo airport. The water taxi to the airport starts running at 6am or 6:30 so that is not an option. The ride from the bus terminal to Marco Polo took approximately 20-30 minutes. Make sure you check it out a day or two in advance otherwise you'll be confused where to board the bus. Good luck and happy travels
