Venice City Pass /Venezia Unica - recommend purchase online?

We are going on our first R. Steves' Italy tour (Best of Venice/Florence/Rome). Does it make sense to purchase a 2 day public transport pass ACTV for (35 E) Venice online in advance and then just have it validated once we arrive? Thanks. Harry & Louise

I don't think so. We ended up buying ours from the manned kiosk and it turned out it was a good thing because we got a huge discount on the kids. If you have anyone 29 and younger with you, definitely go to the kiosk. You need to show their passport.

Otherwise, there were plenty of machines and no lines.

You can buy your passes online. You will get a code, which you will enter at the machine and your tickets will print out. You then scan your ticket each time before you board the boat.

For those with travelers under 29, we were able to purchase Rolling Venice tickets online, along with the discounted vaporetto passes for this summer. Not sure if we’ll have to show passports to someone when we get there.

Does anybody know if the ticket machines accept Apple Pay or tap cards for the vaporetto passes? I can’t find it on the website. Thanks.

I bought my pass at the booth at the train station last September. There was virtually no wait. I think there's a 5-euro discount if you buy well in advance online. If you're buying that early, it might be worth doing. My usual philosophy is not to buy anything prior to a trip that can wait. Trips do sometimes get canceled.
