We will print our boarding pass from home but wondering how early we can check our bags for our flight to Amsterdam. We have to be at the airport quite early due to our ride there so would like to get rid of our bags as soon as possible.

It's typically six hours before a flight. To be certain call Northwest-they handle KLMs operations in North America.

FYI I just heard from the Vancouver airport and it's no more than 3 hours before the flight that we can check our bags. It's a beautiful airport thought so not a bad place to hang out. Better than pacing back and fourth at home.

Be sure to hit the Flying Wedge pizza place in the food court! Some of the best (and most interesting variety) pizza I've ever had! Not quite as good as their stores around Vancouver, but sure hits the spot! One of my favorites, the Big Yum....feta, raisins, onions, tomato, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, cheese blend and cheddar. Sounds weird, but great!!
