Hi,
Anyone done an international connection in Seattle recently?
Would 1 hr and some minutes be enough to get to next flight?
I'm flying Air Canada to Seattle. Then Emirates from Seattle to Dubai.
Usually when I leave YVR to go anywhere that involves the States, I go through U.S customs at the Vancouver airport.
Also, I checked and my luggage is tagged all the way to Dubai, so no need to re-check it in Seattle.
TIA!
I can't imagine there will be a problem since your arrival will be treated as a domestic flight due to pre-clearance in Vancouver. Just make sure to move onto the next flight as soon as you land.
As long as there's no unusual event, you should probably be OK. Stay airside in SEA, of course, just move along quickly to your onward flight's departure gate. Try to be among the first off the plane, and don't dawdle -- your onward flight will begin boarding just a few minutes after your flight from YVR lands.
That said, there is still some risk. If your flight out of YVR has mechanical issues or is otherwise delayed (we do get the rare snow event in winter), doesn't happen often, but it's always a possibility, then you would probably miss the connection. It's all on one ticket (you say your bag will be checked through) so they will accommodate you on the next available flight, but to DBX, that's almost certainly a full 24 hours later. Would that cause your subsequent travel plans to collapse if you arrived a day late? If so...you should at least take a look at options for an earlier YVR-SEA leg. I believe Air Canada flies that at least a couple times per day. If you could catch an earlier flight, even if it means siting in SEA for a few hours, it may be worth it for peace of mind. If that's the first flight of the day, then...not an easy call.
A bit curious about your trip.
Is it a single ticket?
I could not find an Air Canada routing that went through SEA to DXB, nor could I find an Emirates routing that used Air Canada for the YVR-SEA leg. Did I miss finding it?
As you do US preclearance at YVR, all you need to do at SEA is get from one gate to the next, time should not be an issue. The hazard is, if it is separate bookings, what happens if your first flight is late.
Hi,
It's a flight in late November, for the soccer world cup.
I booked it through Emirates website. The YVR - Seatac is Air Canada. Booking says "OPERATED BY AIR CANADA".
Then it shows Emirates for the Seatac - Dubai flight.
Is this a single booking then? I called Emirates but super busy so I tweeted them. They said it's a valid layover. I take it they mean it's normal and shouldn't be a problem.
My only concern at this time is if there is a delay leaving YVR.
Looking at Nov. I see what I assume is your booking.
It is a single ticket, but if the weather is uncooperative ( e.g., fog puts flights behind schedule) , life gets 'interesting', and you probably end up a flight day later. The 5hr layover option is not particularly appealing, but may be less stressful. Glad I do not have to make the choice.
I guess I will do the longer layover just in case. I know Seattle like the back of my hand so not interested in venturing out. I guess I will hang out at the airport. Thanks for the input!
