Validate Swiss Pass in Germany?

We plan to sail across the Bodensee from Lindau, Germany, to Rorschach, Switzerland, and begin using our 2-for-1 Swiss Passes and Swiss Family Card for our Swiss travels. I know that the Bodensee ferry accepts Swiss Passes to allow the user to pay a discounted fare. But won't I need to validate the Swiss Passes before I start using them? Can I validate such a pass in Lindau, in Germany?

Every Swiss Pass I have bought has validity dates on it, you buy a pass and state the date you want it start, because they are for a set number of days, example I go to Switzerland for 14 days so I buy a 15 day pass starting the day I arrive, therefore there is no need to validate the pass on arrival. If there is any other method then I apologise for the wrong information.

Pauline, the Swiss Passes issued in the US by Rail Europe don't typically have the travel dates pre-printed on them so they do have to be validated before use. But as you mention Swiss Passes purchased direct from Swiss Rail/Swiss Travel System do have the travel dates pre-printed and don't need to be validated.
