Using any local trains - possible on RE ticket?

I am planning to buy a ticket which is a combination of "RE ticket" and an ICE train to Paris. However, the connection time with the RE train I am booking is just 6 minutes. At the time of booking, I was given the following message:

"You can only use the trains indicated on your ticket. However, you can use any local trains (i.e. RE, RB, S).
Your ticket includes a seat reservation free of charge for the train/IC Bus with mandatory seat reservations. You can purchase additional reservations for other trains that are part of your journey."

Does the above message mean that I can take an earlier "RE" train so I can have more layover time to switch to the ICE train to Paris?

This is a Deutsche Bahn ticket, right? Yes, you can take an earlier RE (or other local/regional train) prior to the scheduled RE train. But it MUST use the exact same route as the scheduled RE train uses. For your alternative earlier train, you will need to click on details and also the RE train number there; then, examine the list of towns on the route that your train will pass through (which then appears in a separate folder) in order to ensure that you are traveling on the same route.

If you need help and you care to share your start station and your change-of-train station, you might get some.

Yes, its DBahn. Thanks for the information, I will check that now.

Looks like both the trains have a common set of stops, but the earlier train has more stops than the later one. Does this still count as the same route?
