Use of extra days of Eurail Pass for Scenic or Night Trains

When I reviewed the information on the scenic and night hotel trains, it appeared that if we go on a scenic train line, eg: Golden Pass Line or a hotel train, eg: City Night Lines we will have to forfit an extra day of our consecutive days pass. Have I read this correctly.? If not, what do they mean and for which passes are they referring to?

With reference to the Golden Pass, my best information is that you will pay a CHF7 reservation fee for a panorama seat and CHF15 fee for the VIP seat with a 2nd Class Eurail pass. For a 1st class pass, you will pay no panorama fee. I'm sure that you will use one day on your pass for the ride but I know of no reason why you would have to give up an extra day. Lee or Tim may be of some help on the City Night Line.

You can email the Golden Pass people from their website at http://www.mob.ch/GPS/produits/gpp1.asp. I've done it and they respond promptly and in great English.

According to the 7 o'clock rule, if a night train leaves after 7 PM (19:00) you fill in the following day on your railpass, i.e., the date on which you arrive. If you use other trains to get to the night train, then they count for the first day.

You can also read about the 7 0'clock rule on the Eurail website.

Thanks you for your reply. I'll contact the Golden Pass folks to clear up my confusion. I think I didn't ask the question correctly. I appreciate that I'll use a day, what concerns me is that I'll have already taken a train from germany to get to Lucern on the same day and I then meed to go on to geneva. Does this all count on the same day's trip? Thanks again for attempting to understand me. Have a wondrous weekend! Mary
