We fly to Rome (ORD-FRA-FCO) later this week for our tour and I was curious if any of you who have flown lately noticed if your flights were totally full on takeoff, or if there were any empty seats? We're thinking about upgrading seats on our long haul segment, but if there's a chance we might be able to snag a row with an empty seat, that would be awesome (although I am not holding my breath).
If you sign into your flight on the airlines app, OR click on the change seat link online you should be able to see how full the plane is and where people are sitting. It might not be completely up to date but it will give you an idea.
I've flown ATL-LHR and back (March), ATL-AMS and back (April).
ATL-LHR was full both ways. ATL-AMS was full going; AMS-ATL was nearly full.
I would not count on an empty row on a flight to Europe. I kept an eye on the seat maps for my flights and they filled up the week before my flight (though I managed to get a complimentary upgrade on my AMS-ATL flight even though I'm low in the Medallion pecking order).
We flew DFW to Madrid on April 21 and it was a full plane. This was very different from my flight to Rome last October when I had a full row of seats to myself as did my friend flying with me. Afraid those days are gone for good.
We flew from the US to Frankfurt yesterday. There were very few available seats, perhaps a single middle seat here and there. If you are able to actually upgrade and there are still two seats together in the section you want, I’d be tempted for the long, overnight flight.
Flew US to London today. Full planes on Icelandair.
Well, shucks.
Thanks everyone, though!
Seat maps are poor indicators of now many tickets remain to be sold on a flight.
Expert Flyer is a website that can give more information, but it’s limited without paying.
My Delta app has a section for available upgrade seats. It shows how many tickets are available for Comfort plus and Delta ONe as well as how many tickets available for the flight. Again, might not be completely up to date, but it offers some information.
I had to make a change to a flight today for a trip in June to London . Based on what I saw on all my options, . I would not count on many empty seats
there were a lot of seats at the very front of the plane but I get a free upgrade to Delta comfort and the only empty seat Delta comfort was a middle seat which I will decline There were empty rows in the back of a plane but I am expecting a lot of those will be filled by people who pay for the basic economy flights. (And then will want me to change seats because they have to sit next to their family member even though it wasn’t worth paying for that 😂)
1) My last 4 IAH to IST (on the way to Budapest) flights this year on Turkish Air were pretty empty in the back of the plane with lots of folks stretched out sleeping across the 3 center seats.
2) The first 2/3rds of the rows were every seat full.
We were completely full last Saturday Minneapolis to Paris.
Full flights from IAH to CDG April and May.
