I've been trying to purchase bus tickets from Bordeaux to Amsterdam on the Eurolines.fr website but none of my US-issued credit cards or debit cards seem to work. I found some discussions of this issue on this and other websites, but they were posted under other, not directly relevant topics on this site, so I thought I'd start a new topic. My question is: in recent months, has anyone successfully used a US-issued credit card or debit card with a Mastercard or Visa logo to buy tickets on Eurolines.fr? Some online discussions (dating back to at least March 2010) mention that for a US-based Visa card to work on their site, it needs to be registered with Verified by Visa. One of my cards is registered and it still didn't work (tried twice). I called the main Eurolines France office to try to purchase tickets over the phone but was not successful due to language barriers - politely, in French, asked for and got an English-speaking operator but she had trouble getting the spelling of our names and eventually just said "call back later" and hung up. Thankfully, we have a friend who lives in Bordeaux who has kindly offered to purchase tickets for us, either at the local Eurolines office or through their website, so we should be all set. However, I wonder if there is any way at all for someone to purchase Eurolines France tickets with an American credit or debit card. If you have succeeded in this, please respond!
I had a similar experience with the Viking cruise line based out of Sweden/Finland. I ended up calling them directly and they took my credit card details and was all set. Maybe try calling back again or giving credit card details to your friend and trying to book that way. They should take your card regardless, but then again I had to deal with a different cruise line in a different country.....
My daugher, her friends and I have all had the very same problem. It is frustrating to not be able to purchase Euroline tickets.
