Other than the fast train is there a regular train or bus to Toledo from either the airport or Madrid bus station...where do i catch it and how much does it cost...we leave this Sat. (April 4)so need info soon...thanx
Just google "Madrid to Toledo" and lots of info will come up.
No "regular train" any more, so bus is the only alternative to the AVE. Buses used to leave from Estacion del Sur at the "Mendez Alvaro" metro stop, but I hear they've shifted the buses to the Plaza Eliptica. To make sure, check at a tourist info kiosk at the airport. Both are on the same metro line, line 6, so you should only have to make one transfer at Nuevos Ministerios. And I think they're connected by a looooong tunnel in any event. Fare should be under 10 Euro still.
When I was there in February, the Continental Auto (Alsa) bus from Madrid to Toledo left from the Plaza Eliptica bus station (which is at the Plaza Eliptica metro station). The bus was cheap, comfortable, and fast (less than an hour) and ended right in Toledo (so no need to signal). It was 4.67 euros each way. (I didn't think to ask about a round-trip ticket.) It leaves every hour and half-hour as I recall. Have a great time!
Thanks for the info do you know if the bus also leaves from Mendez Alvaro also?
They were talking about shifting them over....Kyla's experience suggests that's now been accomplished. So they won't be leaving from Mendez Alvaro at this point. Both stations are on the same Metro line, so just keep on going down line 6 until you hit Plaza Eliptica. Click here for a pdf Madrid Metro map. Barajas airport is at the top right...transfer to line 6 (grey coloured line) at Nuevos Ministerios, and you'll see Mendez Alvaro and Plaza Eliptica stops in the lower center.
