upper age limit car rentals?

We have enjoyed numerous road trips in Ireland, the United Kingdom, France, and Norway. Our next European trip the driver will be 70 years old. Are car rental companies willing to rent to older drivers, including ones with perfect driving records? If anyone has direct experience with this, please let us know the names of the rental companies you used. Thank you.

This varies as much by country as it does by rental agency; see also https://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/transportation/rental-car-requirements. But our travel agent friend has told us she can almost always look around and find one that works. If you're starting in or near France and driving for three weeks or more, then "leasing" is an option with no age restriction. If you start with a consolidator like Auto Europe, which reps several companies, the age of the driver is one of the first questions, then they will show you your options.

I, age 77, rented a car in France last year, and will be doing so, again next month. Follow Laura's advice. Go to the AutoEurope or Kemwel sites. They ask your age, and display only the companies that will rent to you. It wasn't particularly expensive, either, $250 for 11 days.
