We will be staying near Perugia next spring, then going on to Paris. What's the best/easiest way to get there? We'll have a car in Italy, but drop-off costs in France are sky-high. Would rather not spend 12 hrs on a train, OR 12 hrs. driving...so what are the best/cheapest flight options & from where? Anyone have experience with RyanAir or EasyJet? What about excess baggage costs?
Best flying options are to drive back the 2 1/2 hours to Rome and fly from there. Spanish discount airline vueling flies FCO-CDG, while easyjet flies CIA-ORY, each about $100-120 pp. See www.vueling.com/EN/index.php and look under FAQS for baggage limits. See easyjet.com under "about your trip" then "planning your trip" for baggage. Each allows one carry-on size...easyjet has no limit...vueling's is 22 pounds. Each allows 44 pounds checked luggage, but easyjet charges $4/bag while vueling charges nothing for checked baggage up to the weight limit. Both airports are on the far side of Rome from where you are, but Ciampino may be easier to drive to. Overall travel time Perugia-downtown Paris, 8 hours, tops.
Thanks for the vueling lead...I hadn't heard of them. Their scheduling is much better also...a 2:15 flight getting in at 4:15 instead of very early AM or very late PM. I think you've solved my problem!
