Hi: We made our reservation for our rental car and this is the description: "All compulsory insurance's - Collision Damage Waiver insurance (CDW with an excess), Theft Protection Insurance, Sales Tax @13.5%, Unlimited Free Mileage, Third Party Liability Insurance, Free Road Map of Ireland and 24 Hour Peace of mind breakdown cover." We want to make sure we have the most coverage available. Is this enough? Is there something further we need to request/pay for? How do I get Super CDW? Thanks for the help in advance!
Ask how much your deductible will be with the excess. Get it as close to $0 as you can afford, particularly if you are talking about driving in Italy or Ireland. "Super CDW" is also called Excess Damage Waiver.
Just tell the rental car desk agent that you want 100% no-deductible coverage (that's what Super CDW is). He'll be happy to sell it to you. American Express has no-deductible coverage through its inexpensive premium car protection plan, but unfortunately they won't cover rentals in Ireland.
Ask about the Super CDW. Also compare rates with dailyexcess.com. Our rental came with an 1100 euro deductible. You don't want to get stuck with that. With Super CDW from the rental company, you can just call and say "oopsie, I need another car," then turn the keys in when you leave, no problem. With buying excess insurance from an outside company, you have to pay the rental company the deductible, and file a claim with the excess insurance to get refunded. We did that, took about 6 weeks.
