UK to Norway

I am planning a trip to the UK and would like to include Norway. I was hoping to fly/take a ferry from Edinburgh to Bergen and then the train to Oslo. I'm having a hard time finding a good way to go this. Would be it better to start in Norway? What are some good, economical, timely ways to see both of these countries?

Unfortunately there are no longer any ferry services between the British Isles and Scandinavia. Blame budget airlines and the Channel Tunnel. According to the Edinburgh airport website, Norwegian and SAS both fly to the main Oslo airport and Ryanair, being Ryanair, flies to the more distant Rygge airport.

Flights to Bergen from Scotland are seasonal and go from airports situated further north than Edinburgh with only Inverness on the mainland (the others being Kirkwall and Sumburgh).

The most traveled budget airline in Scandinavia would be Norwegian Air Shuttle--Norwegian.com.

We'd much prefer a 1 hour very inexpensive flight over a long trip on a ferry. We flew Copenhagen to Oslo in September for $73 each.
One surprise on our trip was how variable the weather can be in the region. Norway sees rain about 20 days in the month of September, but our weather was unusually good.
