Cross-operator ticket acceptance was already in place across all publicly-owned operators, but from Sunday it will be expanded to also include Avanti West Coast, Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry and Great Western Railway. East Midlands Railway will also join the scheme at a later date.
There is actually a lot of debate on how this will work in practice, it is a great soundbite but is well short of a lot of detail, especially as rail staff have apparently been briefed with background documentation (not in the public domain) which rather waters the promise down.
That and "East Midlands Railway will also join the scheme at a later date" seems like it might get stretched out. If not the other ones as well.

The original ticket will be valid for use on trains departing within two hours before or after the cancelled service “using a direct or reasonable alternative route”.
It's going to be up to someone else to judge a "reasonable alternative route".
