UK Motorhome Rental

We are thinking of changing things up a bit for our next UK trip; we have done hotels, B&Bs, inns, etc and are considering either a few cottages or a motorhome rental as we plan on doing a more "outdoorsy" trip this time. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with motorhome rentals, including companies to either consider or avoid?

The main problem you are going to find is finding a hire car with a tow bar.

Hiring a motor home maybe more straightforward, but then you have the hassle of finding car parks that you can enter, as many, including supermarket car parks in some touristy areas have height bar restrictions upon entry that prohibit higher vehicles.

My apologies to my first two posters, with camping on my mind I somehow put caravan instead of motorhome!

Note that motorhomes in the UK are likely to be smaller than the ones you might be used to in the US - think the size of an old-school VW bus. They aren't usually suitable for more than two people, and even that might be a squeeze if you aren't on intimate terms.

A little off your original question, but the UK has many caravan parks or holiday home parks where you can rent an established unit. This might give you the camping outdoors connection but leave you free to drive a standard vehicle around while sightseeing.
