U.S. Credit Cards Don't work with SkyEurope online booking??

I have tried 1 Visa and 2 Mastercards and all rejected.
Visa (US BAnk) said they needed SkyEurope to call with a vendor ID# (sure) but neither MC attempt showed up at all (rejected by SkyEurope?). PROBLEM: Not many economical options to fly from Vienna to Nice.

Air Berlin flies Vienna-Dusseldorf-Nice in abut 4 hours with fares as low as 76 Euro, depending on when you fly. I've found them to be a comfortable, efficient airline.

I used my Capital One MasterCard about 2 months ago to book 4 roundtrip tickets from Venice to Prague for June 2009. I had no problems. I actually just called SkyEurope about 2 weeks ago to ask them to add the priority checkin to my tickets which they did with no problem...the charge went on my Capital One Card again.

Jay,, not totally on topic, but, I had a very similar problem trying to use my Canadian CC to book a flight from Paris to Rome this past summer with Vueling. Took me days,, and I tried serveral cards, called Vueling , and called my bank,, bank said it was Vueling, Vueling said it was my bank..

Finally after about a week it just accepted one of our Visas... so frustrating as I really wanted to fly with Vueling ( good price and airports etc) . So, just keep trying,,maybe even use relatives cards( and pay them cash) ..Let your bank know you will be trying to make an international transaction also.

Jay, I had problems purchasing on European airline websites until I had my middle initial removed from the credit card. It was same problem you're having - attempt wasn't even getting to my credit card company. Works fine now. Was able to book by calling the airlines before I had the card changed.

Frank, how did you come up with the idea of removing your middle initial?

That's interesting. I had no problems booking my tickets online with them for my Oct 2008 flights from Prague to Venice and Venice to Vienna when I used my GMAC Mastercard. And I have a middle initial on the card too.

Tim, the customer service person at my credit card company told me it's a common problem and suggested the change.

That's interesting. I'll keep that in mind if I ever have problems with credit card usage for Europe.

Thanks to all for the help on my travel problem.
Rick Steves provides all travelers a unique service with this "travel tool" not to mention his great guide books and videos.
I have been to Europe 8 times in the past few years without benefit of a tour* and I doubt I would have attempted it if not inspired by Rick's shows, books and fellow travelers on his website.
Thanks again and Happy Holidays to all.
*(saving up for one of Rick's though)

SUCCESS...
I dug out my Am Ex card (which nobody in EU seems to take) had it rejected twice, called AmEx (who'd been rejecting on a fraud concern) got the charge cleared and SkyEurope took it on 3rd try.
Wrap-up of mystery:
Visa rejected but still wouldn't go through after I cleared for them to accept (SkyE. prob?).
2 M.C cards tried & rejected, charge attempt never made it through to my cards (SkyE. prob?).
I guess still a mystery but I got my reservations, just hope they're still flying come May.
Thanks again to all.

Will do Tim, thanks for the heads up. Interesting that we were going to do Prague, Venice, Nice, Paris but plugged in Vienna for Venice as had been to Venice (stayed a week & always ready to go back) but not Vienna. Anyway, chances good I would have had the same prob with a Prague-Venice flight. I will keep my fingers crossed and laptop ready.

Jay, concerning SkyEurope (SE) you are correct in hoping they will continue to fly your route in May. In September 2008 I booked a flight from Venice (Treviso) to Prague for June 2009. Yesterday I made my usual weekly inquiry on the SE website to verify my flight information only to find they had cancelled the Venice->Prague leg of the trip. No one ever contacted me; I had to be the one to contact them. They were very nice, but they only offered to rebook me either the day before or the day after my original flight. They would not rebook me from a different city to Prague on my original date...which I ended up doing myself from their website. It just so happened that it worked for me to fly from Rome to Prague on my original date instead of Venice to Prague so I rebooked the tickets myself with the credit that SE issued to me.

So check on your reservations often. You sure don't want to wait until the last minute to find that your flight has been cancelled.
