Is it possible to find out what type of train any particular service uses? The reason being we have friends coming out to Spain and one is a train buff! He wants us to book tickets to travel from Malaga to Cordoba so he can get a ride on an AVE. Our travel agents says ALL trains on this journey are AVE but we don't think she is correct. Any way we can check?
We have lots of smart train people on this site, but I know the train type is listed when you do a search on Renfe's site. I did a quick search and it shows ARCO, AVANT, and AVE trains for that route. Good of you to check for your friends - the AVE train is a really cool experience.
Thanks for your reply! Yes, I've spotted that bit about Arco, Avant & AVE, but they are the names of sub-divisions within RENFE, not types of rolling stock. It's the type of rolling stock we need to know. I suppose we will have to go to the station and ask!
Avant are similar to AVE but less luxurious for shorter-distance travel. Arco trains are, I think, loco-hauled carriages. See http://www.railfaneurope.net/list/spain.html
