Two hour connection plane to train in Frankfurt. Too close?

We arrive in Frankfurt at 12:00 on March 16. Cheapest train to Freiburg leaves at 1:50. Is that cutting it too close? We will be checking our bags. Next "cheap" train would mean a 4 hour wait after arrival. We have flown in to Frankfurter before, but it has been a few years. What do you think?

Thanks for your help.

Assume it is international arrival so immigration and custom plus getting your checked luggage coupled with a restroom stop could make it a little tight. And the assumption, of course, is that your plane is on time. You have no margin for delay. I personally would not do it. For the us the stress of not making the the 1.50 is greater than losing two hours of additional wait time.

Thanks Frank. That was our thought. Just looking for confirmation.

Don't mean to be gloom and doom, but I would not try it. Even if the plane lands on time, it would be very tight due to immigration with just a carry on. With checked luggage, I wouldn't bet lunch on making it.

I too think it's too tight of a connection. Your 4 hour "wait" time will go by quickly with immigration and luggage retrieval. With your remaining time you can get euros and locate the train station. You can sit at a restaurant and enjoy your first German beer of the day and relax instead of stress.

Thanks all. Booked tickets for the later train. My hubby can taste his German beer already!

I always schedule about a 4 hour connection time so I can enjoy German beer and food at the Paulaner beer garden at the airport. Paulaner-thesquaire.de. Or else I do an overnight in downtown Frankfurt with easy access from/to the airport

I've flown into FRA numerous times, and I doubt that it has ever taken me more than an hour to get to the Fernbahnhof. True, I only use carryon, so I don't have to wait for my bags, but that shouldn't take an extra hour. The PROBLEM is that the flight might not arrive on time. I've arrived in Germany an hour late three times out of ten arrivals. Once, years ago, I made reservations to fly from Philly to Munich. After I made my reservations, I started tracking flight. That flight was 9 and 10 hours late arriving in Munich on two consecutive days. Yikes. Fortunately, the flight I was on arrived on time, but you never know.

The other possible monkey wrench is that the incoming flight's schedule may be changed so that you will have insufficient time even if it arrives on time according to its new schedule.
