I've heard several times about the National Rail 2 for 1 purchase option for London attractions. It sounds nice but does it require you to wait in line at the attraction to buy a ticket (versus blowing pass the line with a London Pass)? Does anyone know for sure? Thanks thanks

Yes, if you require a ticket you require buying one. If you buy one when you arrive you need to go to the ticket window. If there are people waiting before you it means you will patiently wait behind them. On the other hand you may find nobody waiting to buy and you can go right up.
