How do I obtain a train ticket (in the USA) to travel from CDG airport to Avignon and return to Paris? My plane (using Air France) is scheduled to arrive at 8:20 am -- 10/7/07. Is is feasible to make a 11:50 am train?

Yes, you will have plenty of time to catch the 11:50 train. Go to www.voyages-sncf.com and click on the British flag for English. Enter either Roissy or Airport CDG 2 TGV as your departure point and Avignon as your arrival point. If yo book today, you can get a PREM'S (discount) fare of €49. Leave France as the default country, do NOT choose cancellation insurance, and print your own ticket.
Follow the same procedure for Avignon-Paris. You may find an even cheaper PREM'S fare for that route.

Tim: Is there actually a high speed train between CDG and Gare Lyon? I saw Ann's subject line, "TVG from CDG to Avignon" and wanted to clarify whether, technically, the TVG part of the train ride actually starts at Gare Lyon?

Kent, there are a few TGVs each day that go directly from CDG to points south, including Avignon. They do NOT stop at Gare de Lyon. There is more frequent service throughout the day from Gare de Lyon.
