Tuscany to Venice

I will be in Tuscany for 4 days, In a small city 20 minutes south of Florence. We would like to make a day trip to Venice. I know that it is possible, but is it feasible? If so, what train should I take into Venice from Florence. What is best way to get to Florence's train station? We will have a car in Tuscany. Thanks. njm

Norma, It would help to have some idea on which "small city" 20 minutes south of Florence" you'll be staying? DO NOT drive your rental car into Florence, as it's highly unlikely that you'll be able to avoid the ZTL areas. EACH pass through one of the automated Cameras will result in a €100+ violation ticket, which you'll receive in the mail several months after you return home. The trip from Florence to Venice is very easy. There are usually departures every hour (on the half hour), and the travel time is 2H:03M (each way). Current second class fare is listed at €43. Note that you'll be travelling from Firenze Santa Maria Novella station to Venezia Santa Lucia. When you walk out the front doors of the station in Venice, you'll see the Grand Canal (and probably one or more Vaporetti). In the same situation, I'd probably leave the car in the town you're staying in and take the train to Florence. Happy travels!

Thanks for your reply. It was very helpful. The name of the small city is Impruneta. We were thinking of driving the rental car to Piazzale Michaelangelo and from there catch their bus to the town center and then walk to the train station. I would appreciate your opinion on this idea as well. Thanks again,
Norma
