TSA rules changing re electronics

Just a heads up - the TSA is starting to make people take all their electronics out of the carry-on bag and put them in the bin. Such as MP3 players, DVD players, digital cameras, cell phones, etc. Enforcement varies by location.

Do you feel safer now? I sure do!

What location did you have this happen in?

I didn't.

This is posted on the SEA website (via FlyerTalk American AAdvantage):

The temporary notice has been verified, albeit not by TSA in D.C. as they are closed. The Air Transport Association has alerted its members. "Effective at 12:01 a.m., Saturday, August 4, the TSA will require travelers to remove the following items from their carry-on bags and submit them for separate screening: video games, video cameras, DVD players and CD players. They will now be treated like laptop computers. You'll have to remove them from your carry-on and run them separately through the X-ray machines,"

As I say, enforcement varies by location. Just be aware.

Huh! OK, thanks for the info. It's nice to know that I'll now be safe from iPods and cellphones!

Just found this on the TSA Website: Ipods and small electronics are NOT required to be hand-inspected - just large Playstation consoles and Laptops and video-cameras that use cassets. Regular cameras, MP3, phones etc are still ok stuffed into you bag. I just always ask to make sure since I have a DSLR-Cam but I can only remeber once having to show it.

Copy/Pasted From TSA Website:
Effective August 4, 2007, full-size video game consoles (for example Playstation, X-box, or Nintendo) and DVD players must be removed from their carrying cases and submitted separately for x-ray screening. Laptop computers and video cameras that use cassettes have long been subject to this policy.

Small electronic items, such as cell phones, MP3 players, iPods and portable video game systems do not have to be removed from their carrying cases.
