I am tying to get some basic train routes on the German train system and it works good except if there are may towns of the same name. For instance St Petersbug Russia. It keeps wanting to put in Finland?
Is this a good site to find East European train routes?
How do you find out the various names that go with the town. Like Warsaw has many options also. The name Poland is not that clear in German.

In German, Poland is "Polen"; Russia is "Russland".

The German train system site (DB) is good to use for planning your rides in easrern Europe. You wrote that Warsaw has many options: depends on what language you clicked. Warsaw is Warschau in German,
Varsovie in French, Warszawa in Polish. What names did you put in that are confusing? Assuming you click on English...if that is what you want...you should not have any problems; to find out the various names that go with a particular town, you have to click on that language to see what it is called. Cracow - English,
Krakau - German, Cracovie - French, Krakow - Polish. Are you looking for routes in Poland? If you're going into the former West and East Prussian areas, the current Polish names will appear when clicked on English...Gdansk was Danzig in German, Torun - Thorn in German, Malbork - Marienburg in German.
In the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic you'll find the current names in Czech and Slovak are used instead of their historical German names, such as for Bratislava it was Pressburg in German, the Hungarians called the place by another name. What routes are you trying to find?

There's a Finland rail station in St. Petersburg, so that might be why that's showing up. Or conversely, the Russian rail system might not be linked for purposes of ticketing to the common system used throughout most of the continent.

what i find confusing is for example what goes with Moscow? It is slept Moscu. So not sure what to put in for Moscow Russia?
That goe for a lot of othr cities as it is hard to figure out the right tain station?
Prauge does not come up either.

Not quite sure what you mean? When I search "Berlin to St. Petersburg" I'll get the correct connections to "St Petersburg Vitebskii", when I search for "Berlin to Moscow" I'll get connections to "Moskva Belorusskaja", when I search for "Berlin to Prague" I'll get connections to."Praha hl.n.". No need to memorize the "native" spellings, plain English suffices.

For Berlin to Praha, most trains, particularly those for which you can get the Europa-Spezial fares, come directly into "Holesovice" station. For Praha hl.n., you have to take local transportation from Holesovice, and that is not included with the E-S. If you specify Praha hl.n., you will not find that fare.

Lee, my point was that Stew don't have to a) specify the exact station and b) don't have to use the "native" forms of the names. If you prefer Praha-Holešovice over Praha hlavní nádraží, you would of course have to specify that. I just assumed that for Stew the main obstacle would be spelling ("Petersbug", "Prauge").
On further reading I think Stews main misconception is the format: it is [city] [station] not [city] [country] "Moskva Belorusskaja" means "Belorussky Rail Terminal in Moscow" not "Moscow in Belarus" "St Petersburg Finlya" means "Finlyandsky Rail Terminal in St. Petersburg" not "St Petersburg in Finland".
