When I input Verona to Salzburg on 5/6, the site says "request price". When I try (I am registered) it is asking for a credit card before they give me a price ! I would like to know what I am paying before I input credit card info.
What am I missing ?
This is because that connection does not use a train of the Bahn, therefore the Bahn doesn't sell tickets for it online. OK, technically, the EC from Verona to Innsbruck IS a train of the Bahn, but you get off it in Innsbruck and take an Austrian Rail train to Salzburg. Even though that train goes through Germany, it doesn't stop, so it's considered an Austrian train. Try the same connection on the Aurstrian Rail website, www.oebb.at. Or, use the stopover function to specify a short stop in Rosenheim. With a change of trains in Rosenheim, the trip will take longer, but you will be using a Regional Express (RE) from there to Salzburg, and the Bahn will sell you the ticket online.
Thanks, Lee ! Is this too early, date wise, to attempt the ticket on oebb.at ? Carla
Up_date: Verona to Innsbruck to Rosenheim to Salzburg, from the Bahn is 78€ pP, full fare. With advance purchase, you could get a discounted fare. Looks like 49€ pP is lowest. If they write the ticket through the website, it's likely to be around the 78€ amount. From Austrian Rail, Verona to Innsbruck to Salzburg is 77,60€ pP full fare. With advance purchase, you can get 39€ pP.
I just used the Austian site and went just to the point of confirming the booking (stopped there because I don't want tickets, myself). I used the German language side, but there is an English side, and I don't think it would be different. Understand that those advance purchase discounted tickets are date and train specific, non-exchangeable, and might have limited refundability.
I will do it now ! Thanks!
