Any tips for buying a UK point-to-point train ticket on nationalrail.co.uk with a U.S. Visa credit card from the U.S.? I got through to where the credit card was verified, then got an error message that the transaction failed. Can do it through BritRail.com but fares are considerably higher there.
Did you notify the company that issued your credit card that there would be a charge from UK? If not, that could well be the reason the transaction was stopped. You always need to notify your credit card company of impending charges from foreign countries.
Thank you! I just spoke with the CC company. I used a Visa card that I don't normally use, and when they saw an attempted charge from the UK their fraud protection process kicked in and stopped the charge and initiated a block on the card. Unfortunately, they did not notify me, so I was unaware of the block. I also had not yet attempted to use the card elsewhere since then so the existence of the block didn't come to light. Re: not notifying me, the rep said they had my cell phone number on record, and current Federal law prohibits them notifying to cell numbers, unless the customer has specifically authorized it. All sorted now, and I understand what to do.
